Although plagued with controversy, the manufacturing process of the 2010 World Cup ball is fascinating. It’s incredible how many stages are required to fabricate one, and how they can be made accurate considering a large portion of the processing is manual. The outer skin is made from 8 moulded and thermally bonded EVA panels, each textured with tiny grooves intended to provide “unmatched flight characteristics”. In their press statement Adidas claims this ball is “perfectly round” and even more accurate than its predecessors.
